In China, 44 people fell ill with an unknown form of pneumonia, condition 11 was assessed as severe, and 121 more were under surveillance. This was reported by referring to a statement by the Wuhan City Health Committee.

“As of 08:00 on January 3, 2020, unexplained viral pneumonia was diagnosed in 44 patients, in 11 of them the disease is severe,” the report said.

As noted, in other patients, the main indicators of the state of the body remain stable.

“All infected are treated in medical facilities in Wuhan in isolated conditions. To date, 121 people have been identified who had close contacts with the infected, they are under the supervision of doctors, ”the committee added.

It is emphasized that in China there were no cases of infection of medical personnel as a result of an outbreak of an unknown form of pneumonia or transmission of the virus from person to person.

A previously published report by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) showed that more than 800 thousand children under the age of five died in 2018 in several countries due to pneumonia.
